The fathers of the Second Vatican Council remind us that every baptized Christian has a right to a Christian education. However, in a few countries of the world (the U.S. among them), Catholic schools receive no government funding.  The result is that many families lack the resources to pay the full cost of an excellent Catholic education. Pope Benedict XVI told Catholic educators, on his visit to the United States in 2008, that “everything possible must be done, in cooperation with the wider community, to ensure that ...[Catholic schools] are accessible to people of all social and economic strata.” At St. Ambrose Academy we strive to attain this ideal, although still falling far short of what the Council and the Holy Father have called for.

We seek to make a Catholic education at St. Ambrose Academy accessible primarily by keeping costs and tuition low, and by soliciting the cooperation of the wider community to provide funds to make possible a generous award of tuition assistance. A merit scholarship is also offered.

St. Ambrose Academy seeks to assist families where needed and calls upon devoted benefactors to assist in Catholic education to allow a portion of the tuition to be relieved. In the 2011-2012 school year, nearly $100,000 in tuition reduction was divided among over one third of enrolled students.

To be considered for tuition assistance, families submit financial information to PSAS, an independent service to schools. PSAS will assess the family's income and financial obligations, including college costs and tuition for other children in school, and will make a recommendation on the amount the family can afford to pay for tuition.  These numbers will then be considered by the St. Ambrose Academy Tuition Assistance Committee, and tuition assistance will be awarded in accord with the resources made available by our benefactors. Families with incomes up to twice the federal poverty levels may qualify for assistance from the St. Francis of Assisi Fund. Please inquire if this applied.

A family does not need to be in poverty, however, to qualify for tuition assistance.  Although many factors are taken into account in determining qualifications for tuition assistance, If you find full tuition is out of reach for whatever reason, you should consider applying for tuition assistance.

Please call Principal Scott Schmiesing at (608) 827-5863 to discuss tuition assistance which may be available to allow your child to attend St. Ambrose Academy.
