Letter from the President |
Spiritual Capital Campaign - Letter from the President Our world today presents many obstacles to the child seeking to grow closer to Jesus Christ. The onslaught of commercial persuasion, immodest images and behavior, distracting music and banter never lets up. There are so few places where a young person can find support and assistance to grow in holiness. A Catholic school then must be a community ever striving to facilitate the daily encounter between the student and Jesus Christ, risen from the dead. Yet the Catholic school exists in the world, and is subject to all the pressures and distracting forces of our times. This is why your prayers and sacrifices are so needed by St. Ambrose Academy and why they are so very much appreciated. I have been blessed to witness the generous openness of our students to Christ and to his call. Joyfully meeting Christ in his sacraments, and diligently pursuing their studies, they are a sign of encouragement in our troubled times. Moreover, two of our recent graduates are seminarians for our diocese, and others are discerning a call to religious life. It is only with the continual outpouring of God’s grace that we can maintain this environment, and your prayers for our school community are an immeasurable help. The Second Vatican Council entreated all the faithful "to spare no sacrifice in helping Catholic schools fulfill their function in a continually more perfect way...." Thank you for your generous response to this call. May you, as projected by the Sacred Congregation for Catholic Education, in offering your prayers, sacrifices, and assistance for Catholic education "be filled with a deep conviction, joy and spirit of sacrifice in the knowledge that ... [you] are offering innumerable young people the opportunity of growing in faith...." David R. J. Stiennon President, St. Ambrose Academy, Inc.
