St. Ambrose Academy Names Scott Schmiesing New Principal

Madison, WI, April 14, 2008—St. Ambrose Academy is pleased to welcome Scott Schmiesing as its new principal, effective July 1, 2008. Rob Marsland, president of the grade 6-12 school on Madison’s west side, announced the decision: “We look forward to the strong faith and wealth of experience in education that Scott brings to our growing school. Scott’s administrative skills will be especially helpful to us in this period of increasing enrollment.” Schmiesing succeeds current principal John Gillett. Marsland noted that Gillett has ably served the school since its founding in 2003. “The St. Ambrose community wishes John the very best,” said Marsland.

Schmiesing currently serves as principal of St. Francis Xavier, a K-8 Catholic school in Cross Plains, Wisconsin. Prior to taking on responsibilities at St. Francis Xavier, he was assistant principal and athletic director at Parkview School District in Orfordville, Wisconsin. Before entering school administration he was a business/computer teacher, athletic director, and coach for Juda School District in Juda, Wisconsin. He has a bachelor of science in business education/secondary education from St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, Minnesota, and a master of arts in education administration/principalship/business management from Edgewood College in Madison.

Referring to Schmiesing’s broad range of experience, Marsland noted, “Scott’s coaching and athletic director experience will be a great asset to our expanding program of student athletics. His dedication to youth as an educator and father and his joyful love of Jesus Christ will be warmly appreciated by the entire St. Ambrose Academy family.” Schmiesing, 41, resides in Fitchburg with his wife, Barb, and five children. He is a member of the Knights of Divine Mercy and Knights of Columbus.
