“The Little School that Could”

The 2014 musical theater production, Annie, provided St. Ambrose students and community a beautiful opportunity to work together to create something beautiful to share with others. Annie, which took place at the Verona High School Performing Arts Center the last weekend in February, included the efforts most of the student body as well as many generous volunteers.
St. Ambrose participated in the Overture Center’s Tommy Awards program, which recognizes, honors, and encourages excellence in musical theater among area high school students.
We are excited to announce that several of the Annie actors were nominated for individual Tommy Awards:

  • Outstanding Lead Performer: Matt Marsland/Warbucks
  • Outstanding Supporting Performer: Michael Mills/FDR
  • Costume Design: Diane Marsland
  • Spirit Award: Alexandra Neumaier, Stage Manager (nominated by Annie cast & crew)
We also received lots of excellent, detailed feedback from the judges, who attended all three public shows.
Some of our favorite comments:
“It was clear the cast was enjoying themselves and were committed to the work they were doing.”

“The closeness of the performers was evident on stage, as they were clearly committed to putting on a top notch entertainment.”

“Annie was a wonderful example of the quality a small school can bring to the high school musical genre.”

“Once again, St. Ambrose Academy has demonstrated that they are the ‘little school that could’ with this fine production of Annie.”

Praise God! In Christ we can do all things!
